Some Facts & Tips on Smoking


A MUST READ:

Life is just one big ashtray! For some it may as well be... for others perhaps not. Millions upon millions of people all over the world smoke or a least have smoked cigarettes at some point in their lives. The people of the world who do still smoke however, (I can be bold in saying this...) most of them WANT TO GIVE UP! Are you one of the majority who wants to give up? Perhaps you are planning on doing so in the near future, maybe you will succeed and just stop. Or maybe you will struggle, giving into temptation, the habit itself or the addiction is too strong.

Think back to when you were a child smelling cigarette smoke for the first time, now think back to that first drag of a cigarette, perhaps when you thought is was in-thing to do in front of your friends. As you think back, do you wonder what happened along the way? For all, when you inhale the smoke for the first time, its rejected by the body. You perhaps choked, had an irritation in the back of the throat, your heart rate went up. Your senses became very aware of this stale air that was being sucked into your lungs, clinging to your clothes afterwards. All your senses at that point was warning you too stop. But it was through your mental persistence to carry on, that eventually your body adapted to the acceptance of such a poison. As such, through mental persistence you can reverse that effect over time. Will power is the main issue, how much do you have to overcome smoking? Could you stop by going 'cold turkey', with the use of 'patches' or 'nicotine gum'. Perhaps you already have tried and failed using one of these methods.   But sometimes with will power and the aid of 'patches' etc. this alone is still not enough.

I'm sure you all have seen the warnings on the packets of cigarettes or on the television. But here is something you probably didn't know. Cigarettes contain, cyanide, nicotine, arsenic, prussic acid, benzo-pyrene, ammonia and carbon monoxide. Then there is the chemical fertilizers sprayed onto the crops, pesticides etc. Yes arsenic and cyanide! Did you know that nicotine is one of the worst poisons for the human body? If you were to use a hypodermic needle to inject the nicotine from just one cigarette into your bloodstream, you would be dead in seconds!

Maybe you are reading this, with a cigarette in your hand right this second. Unconsciously taking the occasional drag. As you browse the web, drive to work, wait for a bus or just relaxing on the sofa. These are times when you most probably smoke out of habit. Something for your hands to do, something to stick in your mouth. Now think to the times when you really, truly enjoy a cigarette. You will find that out of maybe 15-20 per day, only 3-4 you truly enjoy!

bullet Here are some things to try, if you truly want to give up.

 
bulletSet yourself a date. Get rid of all cigarettes in the house/car etc. by that date.
bulletBuy patches or nicotine gum.
bulletFind something to replace the habit. Drink water, buy lollipops etc.
bulletDisgusting as it may sound.... leave the cigarette butts in the ashtrays, allowing them to overflow.
bulletOr even more disgusting... place used butts into a jar half filled with water. Seal the lid and every time you really have the urge to smoke a cigarette, simply open the jar and breath in the wonderful smell of the contents!
bulletTell people that you have given up. This will give you more pressure to succeed. Your colleagues or family will be let down if you start again. Do you want them to turn around at a later date and say, "...ah couldn't resist the temptation eh?" with that smug look on their face? So prove them wrong!
bulletWork out how much you spend on cigarettes. You will be amazed on how much per year!
bulletDon't switch to menthol cigarettes, a weaker substitute. Your body will still expect the usual amounts of nicotine intake, so you will just smoke more.
bulletIf your plan is to cut down before stopping - Change your smoking zones. Really stop smoking in your main areas of habitual smoking. If you want to have a cigarette, you will be forced to find somewhere, making you more conscious of the habit.
bulletPerhaps a support group is available. Or telephone assistance. Check your local directory.

 

bulletLast but most certainly not least.... HYPNOTHERAPY!

You still have to actually want to give up and not for the wrong reasons, such as influence from your partner. If you want to stop but find it hard to stop, let me take away that struggle.
